Music Fest 2024 Set Piece: Jazz Ensemble B Grade
Funky! Funky! Funky! This chart lights up every band that plays it. Mix some Tower of Power with some 70s Brecker Brothers and stand back. The written bass part nods to Rocco Prestia while the drums lean into Dave Garibaldi territory. Add Steve “Doc” Kupka’s bari and you have a foundation for some serious fun. There is ample space for numerous soloists with an optional open section as well as within the form of the tune. An eight bar drum solo (also could be opened up) leads into a funky 16 bar breakdown/fugue section which opens the shout chorus and punctuated finale. Trumpet range is to written high C, trombone to G.
